Easiest way to take an oil sample?

Femco’s oil drain valves make gathering oil samples fast, clean, and easy. While we are globally known for our fluid drain systems, our products are also perfect for taking oil samples.

How to take an oil sample with Femco valves:

Install a Femco drain plug on your engines oil pan. This plug is a permanent replacement. When you’d like to take an oil sample, follow these steps:

  • Unscrew the dust cap from the plug.
  • Attach the drainer or sampling nipple to the plug.
  • Oil will begin to flow out of the pan in a controlled manner.
  • Easily collect the oil in a container or bottle for testing.
  • Unscrew the drainer or sampling nipple from the plug.
  • Screw the dust cap back onto the plug.

You have now collected the oil monster in a clean and controlled manner. The oil is taken from the bottom of the pan, allowing you to effectively check for wear particles. You can also choose to let some oil flow out of the pan first and collect some oil midway through the process. Femco plugs are perfect for taking samples, but also for easily and cleanly draining the entire oil content during an oil change. You can easily take an oil sample with any type of Femco plug: Standard, Compact, Click Drain, Non-Drip, and XL.

The Importance of Oil Sampling

Oil sampling is a crucial procedure within the maintenance programs for machines and vehicles. The goal of this is to obtain a representative oil sample that can then be analyzed to assess the condition of both the oil and the machine. This process has multiple benefits that contribute to the efficiency, reliability, and lifespan of machines. Regularly gathering your used motor oil for analysis is a great way to extend the life of your equipment.

During the analysis of the oil, it is important to check the viscosity—this is the thickness of the oil and how well it lubricates under different temperature and pressure conditions. Also, check for contaminants in the oil, such as dirt, water, and fuel. Carefully inspect for wear particles in the oil sample. Metal particles can indicate wear of machine components. Lastly, you should also check the level of additives in the oil. This indicates whether the oil is still effective or needs to be replaced.

By purchasing Femco plugs, you make oil changes and oil sampling easier. You can quickly, cleanly, and safely drain the oil. With more than 600 sizes, we’re sure to have the perfect solution for your vehicles and machines. Check out Femco products in our web shop.
